Future of Textiles and Clothing (Textile ETP) announced that it is planning to seek about €100 million in further funding to build the worlds most advanced automated sustainable garment production line under its European Technology Platform.
This was declared at the 4th Annual Public Conference of the European Textile Technology Platform held in Brussels in the first week of April. Currently more than 30 European textile research projects with a total budget of more than €200 million were reviewed.
The majority of those including flagship projects such as LEAPFROG, AVALON or DIGITEX showcased their intermediate or final results in the form of presentations, exhibitions, live demonstrations etc.
Keynotes sessions with high level speakers of the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, Euratex and ETP Chairman Dick Hendriks informed about key developments in EU research policies and programmes and the activities of the Textile ETP.
Mr Dicks Hendicks while addressing the gathering said that, “Of the total value of textiles sold in Europe amounting to €211 billion, 36 percent of that is apparels of which again a equal proportion of that are sold at normal prices, discounted prices and the last part is wastage”.
“This last and wasted part amounts to €21 billion, which gives us powerful new tools and given the necessary level of industrial commitment, will change the rules of the game, especially in the more conventional clothing and interior textile markets”, he added by saying.
