Bangladesh : Textile sector fails to reach target figure - EPB reports

The Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh has released export perfomances figures pertaining to the first five months (July –Nov) of the current fiscal.
Knitwear, Jute goods, home textiles, leather, raw jute, footwear & terry towels recorded growth over last years figures for the same period but fell short of the target figures. Woven Garments & textile fabrics recorded decline over last year's performance and in turn below the targeted figures.
The overall best performance was delivered by raw jute with a positive increase of 18.33 percent & the worst was recorded by textile fabrics with negative growth of 36.27 percent corresponding to the figures in the same period last year.
Knitwear recorded a positive growth of 6.19 percent, Jute goods 0.97 percent, home textiles 8.28 percent, leather 9.26 percent and terry towels 3.56 percent respectively in the corresponding period.
Categories which recorded a negative growth corresponding to the same period last year were woven garments 3.17 percent & handicrafts with 8.47 percent respectively.
