Valor Memorial History
The Valor Memorial stands in the lobby of CBP Headquarters in Washington, DC, and serves as a reminder of those exceptional individuals who, over the course of 200 years, have made the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out their mission to protectour nation. Each name etched into the Memorial represents an unyielding dedication to CBP’s mission and to our country. The U.S. Customs Service unveiled its first Valor Memorial in August 1985, engraved with the names of 49 agents and inspectors. In May 2000, the U.S. Customs Service dedicated a new Memorial, which included the names of any officer lost as the direct result of an action carried out in the line of duty.
On March 2, 2004, this Memorial was rededicated to honor all. Those who have worked to secure our borders over the past two centuries, and to also recognize the newly established frontline border agency of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
