The beleaguered textile, garment and footwear industry of Fiji has got an helping hand from Australian Government and received AUD $2.5 million for its betterment in the international market.
This aid is the outcome of visit by a team of Australian consultants last year and their comprehensive assessment of the textile, garment and footwear industry.
The visiting team found out that the intensive training is required both at the senior management level to labour class. The textile, clothing and footwear industry can be strengthened through vocational and management training.
Satistics reveal that Fiji’s garment export fell considerably by 35 percent in the past five years from $313 million in 2000 to below $200 million last year.
