“Another successful EATP Conference!” was the reaction of participants at the close of the Executive Seminar held in Istanbul on May 7 and 8 by EATP, the European Association for Textile Polyolefins.
Textile polyolefins are a major sector of the European textile industry, producing polymers, fibres, fabrics and a wide range of other products, from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). European output of polyolefin textiles exceeds € 3 billion a year.
They have a huge range of uses, in floorcoverings, packaging, home textiles, engineering, agriculture, hygienic and medical products, sportswear and much else.
The theme of the 2007 Executive Seminar was “Challenges and opportunities in the changing world of polyolefin textiles”. It was highly international, with participants from 16 countries. Presentations were made by companies from Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and UK.
The highest number of presentations came from Turkey, with five leading Turkish industrial representatives explaining different aspects of Turkish developments.
17 high-level presentations were made by industry leaders and invited experts, on themes which included:
• The Turkish economic framework
• Polyolefin feedstocks and polymers
• Developments in fibres and yarns in Spain and Slovakia
• Growth of polyolefin textiles in Turkey
• The future of the European textile industry
• Carpets
• FIBCs (flexible intermediate bulk containers)
• A global view of nonwovens
• Investing in Turkey
• Innovation
• Synthetic turf
• Supply chain management
Colin Purvis, Director General of EATP, commented:
“The EATP Executive Seminar has again shown its value – it is the only conference concentrating on the key management issues in the polyolefin textiles industry. The quality of the presentations was outstanding, and I am convinced that all participants took away new ideas and information which will help to guide the future marketing, investment and strategic decisions of their companies."
“EATP has a key role in promoting the interests of polyolefin textiles, and provides a wide range of services which help the industry’s development. The Executive Seminar is an important part of this.”
The next EATP Executive Seminar will be held in Vienna on May 19 and 20 2008.
