UGANDAN traders can save some money if they import textiles from Mauritius, Sanjay Matadeen, the manager of client services at Enterprise Mauritius, has said.
Matadeen said the Ugandans would save the money because Mauritius is a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
inished textiles are taxed 25% but the COMESA rate is 6%. We are also pushing for the removal of the 6%,?he said at a press conference.
Livingstone Zziwa, the chairman of the Kampala City Traders Association, said importing from Mauritius would be a relief to the traders who get highly-taxed textiles from non-COMESA countries.
