Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to honour six artisans from districts of Kullu, Chamba, Mandi and Solan for their contributions in the handicrafts and handlooms sector.
Kamla Nayar of Chamba and Om Prakash Malhotra of Mandi were the most fortunate to be selected for the highest prize money of Rs 15,000 each.
Sonam Tenzin of Kullu and Bhagat Singh Bhatia of Solan district have been chosen for second prize of Rs. 10,000 each. Hardev of Chamba and Anshul hailed from Mandi have been declared third prize winner for Rs 5,000.
Artisans from these highlands provide a wide variety of spectacular ware — from dazzling shawls to miniature paintings and more. Himachali craft is famous for needle painting, making large handkerchiefs, leather chappals (flat, open shoes) and belts.
Besides the cash prize, all the selected candidates would be awarded certificates for being an important part of the handicrafts and handlooms industry.
Government's action is aimed at promoting art and craft among other skilled workmen from the state.
