UNIQLO launches its UT GRAND PRIX 08 T-shirt design competition on August 15, 2007. Applications are welcome from August 15 through September 20, 2007 and we encourage artists from all over the world to submit their entries.
The winner will receive 3 million yen in cash. Presentations to the prizewinners and commercialization of the T-shirt designs will take place in April 2008.
UNIQLO's T-shirt design competition, held every year since 2004, is open to people of all ages from any country in the world. Last year, we received 14,023 design entries from 20 different countries.
Now into its fourth year, we have invited top creative talent to judge the 2008 competition -- art director Kashiwa Sato, architect Tadao Ando, and the avant-garde novelist Yayoi Kusama. We are hoping to encourage entrants from countries all over the world to express their artistic views freely in a two-dimensional artwork using a T-shirt for a canvas.
The competition runs from August 15 through September 20, 2007. There will be a range of prizes, with a cash prize of 3 million yen going to the winning entrant.
We are also planning to set up a special page on our website from October 1 to enable 1000 entrants who will get through the preliminary screenings to display their artwork to the world. By hosting the UT GRAND PRIX 08, UNIQLO is looking to make designs and the design process more fun and interesting, enabling designers from all over the world to communicate with consumers.
