Following in the footsteps of US toy major Mattel, Britain's famous toy company Hamleys has recalled two items of children's jewelry containing lethal amounts of lead.
The toy jewelry, imported from China, included a five-pound bracelet that had 93 percent lead, deadly enough to cause permanent brain damage and death should a child chew on it. This amount is much higher than the permissible lead limit of 0.06 percent.
Though sources in Hamleys confirmed selling these toxic products, they said it was done unknowingly. They added that an immediate inquiry has been launched.
According to a report, Chinese manufacturers are known to recycle lead from discarded computers for use in children's jewelry.
