India : Vadapalani MFT to offer fashion design & apparel management courses

The Madras Institute of Fashion Technology (MFT) opened its new campus at Vadapalani in July.
MFT, in collaboration with Alagappa University, Karaikudi, will offer three-year UG degree courses(Regular-Fulltime) in apparel fashion design and fashion apparel management.
In addition, MFT will offer three year UG Degree courses and Diploma in fashion design and garment making in fashion through distance mode(weekend contact classes) under the Open University stream in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Open University.
MFT has been offering courses in fashion technology for the past four years. The courses have been specifically designed to stimulate intellectual growth and to help students pursue a vocation, where they can readily apply their knowledge and skills.
Several MFT students, upon graduation have found employment as fashion designers, fashion coordinators and merchandisers, and some have even established their own boutiques.
The inauguration of the MFT’s Vadapalani campus was a grand event. Several noted individuals from various fields, including elected officials, educationalists and industrialists (from textile and garment industry) attended the event.
Thiru R.S. Raja Kannappan, MLA, inaugurated the campus. Mayor Thiru M. Subramanian lighted the kuthuvilakku in the presence of Dr. M.S. Palanichamy, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai, and Dr. R. Dhandapani, Registrar, Alagappa University, Karaikudi.
Other distinguished guests included Dr. B. Chandrasekaran, Scientist, Central Leather Research Institute, Dr. D. Abhaikumar, Principal, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, V. Nagarajan, Principal, Apparel Training & Design Centre, and Rtn. M. Jaganathan, Secretary , Rotary Club of Madras West Trust. Senguttuvan, Director and Kalaimathi, Secretary, MFT, welcomed the guests. Garments designed by MFT students were displayed for viewing by the guests.
