Iran : Carpet export slips in 5 months of 2007

Weaving of carpet is an integral part of Iranian art, handicraft and culture with a long and well-established history. However, recently the Persian carpets are facing severe threats of foreign markets.
Statistics reveal that in the first five months of this year, carpet exports has fetched around US $124.6 million for the country, showing a plunge of 11.63 percent compared to previous year.
The country shipped about 3.7 Thousand Tons of carpet, a drop of 26.37 percent in volume against 5,000 tons worth $141 million last year.
