A total of 1150 pieces of embroidery picturing Rajagopuram of Sriranganathaswami temple, were created by the members of Tiruchy Innovative Ladies United Needlework Association (TILUNA).
These cross stitch embroideries were done on 25 inch by 36 inch cloths and over 900 people from across the country participated in the event that was initiated in 1998. Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College will provide the ground for hosting this exposition of craft work on October 6.
Each of these embroidery work consumed nearly three months to get completed. While Madura Coats and Pony Needles magnanimously donated canvas and needles for the cause, TILUNA issued a sum of 6 lakh for the threads.
The venture, had a tremendous impact upon the people, bringing them together for a common cause as well as helped revive the traditional handicraft which was otherwise on a decline.
Exhibition and sale of the embroidered pieces organized by TILUNA, aims to get an entry in the Limca Book of Records and funds raised from the crafts would be channeled for the vocational training of disabled children.
