The Talbots Inc announced that it has retained a leading global business consulting firm to assist management in a strategic review of the Company with a focus on brand positioning.
"The decision to evaluate the positioning of our brands in the marketplace is one of the important initiatives that our team is undertaking," said Trudy F. Sullivan, who was named President and Chief Executive Officer of The Talbots, Inc. effective August 6, 2007.
"Talbots remains a strong brand that resonates powerfully with our customers, and the insights derived from these efforts will help us to build on that strength to keep our brand relevant, fresh and consistent."
In addition to the positioning and expansion opportunities of the Talbots and J.Jill brands, the consulting engagement will address among other operating matters, store growth, productivity, non-core concepts, and distribution channels. The consulting engagement is expected to be completed by the first quarter of fiscal 2008.
"The Company is moving forward to develop a comprehensive strategic plan to drive sustainable profitable growth and enhance the performance of our business, and the outcome of this study will be a key element of that plan."
"With this initiative and our own internal assessments, we will work closely with our Board and management team to bring about appropriate changes to the way we do business. We look forward to sharing the results with our shareholders and associates in the future," concluded Ms. Sullivan.
In September, The Talbots Inc also announced plans to conduct a competitive review of agencies for its Talbots brand advertising account.
