Dutch clothes shops are on their way to a top year in 2007. In the period January to September turnover in clothes retail was 7.8 percent higher than twelve months previously.
This made the average monthly turnover in the first nine moths of 2007 already higher than for the same period in the previous peak year, 2002.
Turnover in the clothes sector rose in 2006 and 2007, in particular, as a result of more clothes being bought than in previous years. Moreover, clothes prices fell in 2002 to 2006.
In the first three quarters of 2007, prices rose for the first time, but were still clearly lower than in 2002.
