The versatility of Australian Merino wool continues to amaze with two innovative new products announced in recent weeks.
Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and European clothing manufacturer Memteks have come together to create a new range of seamless Merino sports and body garments.
Based in Turkey and with US operations, Memteks is a leading creator of seamless apparel products. Its range includes intimate apparel, active wear, swim, maternity and yoga wear.
Memteks is also regarded as one of the premier research and development organisations in the seamless clothing industry. Sports garments have been revolutionised by seamless technology – now machines are able to create pieces from a single continuous line of thread, reducing production assemblage costs.
The seamless body wear market has been growing at an annual rate of 10%, with Merino use increasing as brand awareness rises.
AWI has also recently designed a men’s business suit that can be washed in the shower, which could be available as early as next year, targeted to the Japanese market.
Laundering the garment while in the shower will reportedly remove 80 per cent of everyday soiling, according to Jimmy Jackson, AWI Global Product Development Manager.
“Put it on a hangar as normal and then go to the shower and set the shower around 40 degrees Celsius,” he said.
