A number of ware houses for selling Chinese sewing machines and accessories are being considered for construction in South India.
Chinese sewing machine manufacturers are planning to have a base in India to make it easier for their consumers to pick up necessary products.
Prospects of setting up these warehouses in various cities in the southern region are being evaluated by China Sewing Machinery Association (CSMA), in collaboration with Clothing Manufacturers’ Association of India (CMAI).
Further, Rahul Mehta, CMAI President, on January 8, told the reporters, “The warehouses could come up either in Chennai, Tuticorn or some other city on the east coast. The CSMA wants the warehouses to be located close to apparel hubs like Bangalore and Tirupur.”
The CMAI President also asserted that the Indian apparel manufacturers preferred Chinese machinery because of its relatively competitive prices and good quality.
Mr Mehta pointed out saying, “Everyday, Chinese apparel machinery is being imported to India. Unfortunately, the manufacturers take time to supply the machinery to India since they do not have manufacturing facilities in this country. Therefore, they want a presence in India from where they can supply and service the clients.”
The President of CSMA also mentioned its desire to set up a training institute in Bangalore saying “The institute will train garment factory workers in various aspects like operating the machinery and handling equipments.”
