Angola : Sumbe district to undertake cotton production

Sumbe district is likely to have a launch of large scale cotton production and indication towards this undertaking has been made by the Governor of central Kwanza Sul province and Serafim do Prado.
In 1999-2000, the last time when cotton cultivation was attempted in the area, a produce of 500 tons was generated.
Financial requirements for the same have also been made and an economic development center will also be set up with the commencement of this project in the Gangula Commune.
The project which is estimated to cost around US $40 million, was signed in form of a financial memorandum between the Angolan Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and China's Exim Bank.
The project will not only sustain the lives of 1,914 families but will also include construction of irrigational infrastructure. Moreover, its implementation will be taken over by Sansung Corporation and Honil.
