Malaysia : Sales value of manufacturing sector rise

The sales value of the Manufacturing sector in November, 2007 increased by 3.8% or RM1.7 billion to RM45.9 billion as compared with RM44.2 billion registered in November, 2006. The sales value of the current month rose by 2.5% or RM1.1 billion as against RM44.79 billion reported in October, 2007.
The increase in sales value during the current month as compared with November, 2006 was attributed to the rise in Refined Petroleum Products, 32.0% or RM2,173.0 million (to RM8,973.0 million from RM6,800.0 million).
Total paid employees engaged in the manufacturing sector was 1,103,124 persons, an increase of 19,728 persons (1.8%) against 1,083,396 persons employed in November, 2006. Total employees in November, 2007 increased marginally by 0.4% or 4,020 persons when compared to 1,099,104 persons in October, 2007.
Salaries & wages paid increased by RM91.3 million or 4.7% in November, 2007 compared with RM1,938.0 million spent a year before. The total amount paid in November, 2007 was 0.8% or RM15.6 million higher than RM2,013.7 million spent in October, 2007.
For the first eleven months of 2007, the Manufacturing sector posted a cumulative sales value of RM474.3 billion, an increase of 1.4% or RM6.7 billion over RM467.6 billion registered a year ago.
The total salaries & wages paid out to employees in the sector for the comparative period also rose by 6.8% or RM1.4 billion to RM22.1 billion as compared with RM20.7 billion disbursed during the previous year.
