Organic, biological, green, sustainable and fair trade: These terms have become consumers’ common vocabulary, and they define the purchase decision increasingly.
The “organic wave” has become a successful segment on the market in the mean time and promises further growth. But there is a lot of confusion not only within the world of textile finished products.
Even at origin, there are several obscurities. What does sustainability mean? Is the production of “organic cotton” efficient and what are the alternatives? Did conventionally produced cotton gain regarding the environment protection?.
And how does fair trade relate to all of this? From producers in the USA to the FAO-employee of the Indian cotton fields as well as to the German mail order company – six experts of organic and conventional cotton will deal with all these issues during a panel discussion.
Cultivation methods, profitability, ecology and social standards will be examined with a lot of know how in order to solve the questions of the future development in the cotton sector and to disclose new trends.
The 29th International Cotton Conference Bremen will take place in the town hall of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen from April 2 – 5, 2008.
This international event has been organized jointly by the Bremen Cotton Exchange and the Fibre Institute Bremen offering its participants (2006: approx. 650 from 40 nations) from science, trade and industry numerous lectures, sessions of professional boards and expert panels as well as events organized by trading firms of Bremen.
