With princesses on the guest list, together with the best of local and European couture, it's little surprise that Russian Fashion Week is now seen as an increasingly influential counterpart to the likes of Milan and London.
The main event for the city's fashionistas runs from October 28 - November 4. During this time, Russia's leading designers will hope to impress the smart set with their Spring-Summer 2009 collections.
Russian designers, including Max Chernitsov, Serguei Teplov, Julia Dalakyan, Chistov&Endourova, Miniam, and Personage will be sharing the catwalk with foreign guests such as Latvia's Maria Vlasova, Spain's Custo Barcelona and Italy's Alessandro di Benndetti.
There's even a royal seal of approval for the event, as a princess from Thailand is making an official state visit - and opening her own exhibition at the show. This proves that Russia's fashion industry is gaining more and more clout with its foreign counterparts. Russian designers are increasingly recognized abroad, which still seems to be the international proving ground, which determines success or failure.
Russian Fashion Week has a special theme this time, ‘Fashion Cinema,' which marks the 100th anniversary of the first film in Russia. A non-stop show of films featuring some of the stars of international design will run throughout the week.
But RFW isn't just entertainment; it also encompasses a theoretical component. The schedule includes lectures and seminars held by leading fashion experts, as well as press-conferences with participants and guests participating in the event.
As usual, Russian Fashion Week 2008 is sure to be full of fascinating shows and other events. The traditional pre- and after- parties will be held in Famous club on October 27 and November 4 respectively. The shows will be held at the World Trade Center. Everyone striving for beauty and hoping to keep up with the latest trends will be satisfied in the dynamic of fashion whirlpool there.
