Hugo Boss takes great leap forward with SAP Apparel & Footwear

In just five months, the fashion group Hugo Boss AG, headquartered in Metzingen, Germany, completed a full SAP ERP upgrade from version 3.0 to the current version 6.0, and added full support for Unicode. Munich, Germany-based KPS Consulting worked together with the internal project team to complete the upgrade of the SAP Apparel and Footwear application, with additional assistance provided by SAP Active Global Support.
The team used Hugo Boss’ process manual to conduct a system inventory in the current version of SAP Solution Manager 4.0 (Support Package Stack 15) – not only for the SAP Apparel and Footwear functions, but also for the company’s other integrated SAP solutions. By doing so, the team set up a reusable test library for integrated test scenarios at Hugo Boss.
Using the classic two-track approach, development activities took place separately from maintenance work. In particular, the project team was faced with overcoming the software logistics hurdle of taking SAP Apparel and Footwear straight from version 3.0 to 6.0. Representative test scenarios that had been created in consultation with the user departments were processed as worklists in the Test Workbench within SAP Solution Manager – first by the IT department and then by the user department – using the consolidation system.
Successful testing was vital for the actual upgrade to go ahead. And, as a result of the high system quality and the comprehensive test scenarios, the applications finally went live without a hitch.
