Australian organic wool growers, are being called apon, to help UK retailing giant Marks & Spencer to go green. As part of their marketing strategy, M&S are moving to make more of their product lines environmentally friendly.
Asked by Kerry Penfold, for www.wool.com , if organic fibers are a fashion trend or a long term customer desire, Graham Burdon, who is M&S sustainable textiles and cotton specialist, said "the answer is still unclear. At Marks and Spencer we are treating it as a strategy, if my customers want organic, we have to find it.
More and more we are reading about climate change and more people want to know how their clothing is made. It would be to dangerous to move all our clothing to organics, because of the risks with supply".
Demand for organic wool, is now coming from counties that have embraced organic living, such as Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands. Germany and Austria, according to Kelly.
