Pulling on next season's warmth

Pulling on next season's warmth

It's time to turn away from this winter's grays and welcome the summer's warmth.

Four leading fashion brands -- EQ:IQ, Joan & David, Anne Klein and Pringle of Scotland -- on Thursday presented a fashion show together to explore their creative yearnings for 2009.

The Joan & David spring/summer 2009 collection has a stylish look, smart and sophisticated. It is feminine and romantic with a city-chic edge. The return to tailoring extends from fall/winter but heavy lace and tweed makes it a perfect transition to spring 2009. Urban safari, Oriental and Victorian white themes reflect the runway trends this season.

For instance, the brand's urban safari offers cardigans in textured spring cotton and soft crepe skirts to match. Novelty tweed jackets bring a contemporary alternative to wearing the suit, either teamed with a tulip skirt or pleated pants in new silhouettes. Multi-color tweeds such as strawberry and tangerine brings a refreshing and colorful touch to spring 2009.

EQ:IQ is inspired by the modern art movement of the early 1970s-1980s, its collection experiments with new expressions of self-styled creativity and whimsical playfulness, presenting fresh looks for the eclectic, confident and individualistic woman.

The pictorial language of geometric abstraction is a strong theme for EQ:IQ spring/summer 2009. Easy-to-wear dresses and casual tops become the canvas for decorative 2-D and 3-D abstract art, presented as fun graphics or vibrant prints. From hearts to lips, moons, birds and glass marbles, geometric iconography inspires the season's artistic sensibility. Strong color-block graphics follow the abstract vibe, with clashing palettes of bright sherbets, pastels and natural shades.

Pringle of Scotland, the esteemed European high-end brand, takes inspiration from the fluidity of David Hockney's swimming pool series for its new collection. Highlights of the designs include splash and swirl graphic prints, open hand knits in chalk and ice, featuring directional decreasing cables; and chiffon ruffled appliques.

Anne Klein, in keeping with its image of modern classic, features silk cashmere cardigan and shift dresses.
