Pakistan: Textile policy to be announced in June

Federal Minister for Textile Industry Rana Mohammad Farooq Saeed Khan has directed Faisalabad Garments City Company (FGCC) to finalise its rental policy to immediately lease out the blocks completed in FGC.

Addressing the Board of Directors (BOD) meeting of the FGCC at Khurarianwala near Faislabad on Monday, he termed FGC as one of the best, cheapest and most viable projects of textile industry, which is poised to play its dynamic role in the national economy.

He said that completed block should be leased out after formulating a comprehensive and market based rental policy. He said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani will be invited to formally inaugurate this mega project which has the potential to drag Pakistan out from this economic crisis in addition to providing jobs to hundreds of workers.

He also assured to provide necessary funding in addition to resolving problems confronted by FGC on top priority basis. FGC Company (FGCC) Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh briefed the minister about the pace of work of ongoing projects. The meeting also approved minutes of the previous meeting.

Federal minister also visited the under construction building of FGC. Later, talking to media persons, Federal Minister Rana Mohammad Farooq Saeed Khan said that the first comprehensive textile policy would be announced in the month of June. He said that “we are negotiating with all stakeholders and government departments to give final touches to the textile policy.” He said that Pakistan is the most suitable country for garments industry.
