According to the overall arrangement of the CPC Central Committee, in order to implement the advocacy of the CPC leading group on studying and practicing the scientific approach to development to actively handle the current economic challenges and to maintain stable and relatively fast economic growth, Mr. ZHOU Xiaochuan, member of the Central Committee of the CPC leading group on studying and practicing the scientific approach to development, Secretary of the CPC PBC Committee and Governor of the PBC, headed a team to Shenzhen Stock Exchange on 14 January, and conducted research on establishing a multi-tier capital market and bringing the market s role of resource distribution into full play, so as to conscientiously practice the scientific approach to development and implement The Opinions on Beefing Up Financial Support for Economic Development of the General Office of the State Council.
During the visit, the leading official of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange delivered a presentation on the progress of establishing a multi-tier capital market following the scientific approach to development. After that, the research team conducted in-depth discussion with the managers of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on coping with the international financial crisis, facilitating healthy development of the capital market, advancing the transformation of growth model and the development of the growth enterprise market.
ZHOU pointed out that, the stable and healthy development of the capital market, a multi-tier capital market and market-based resource allocation are significant for maintaining stable and healthy development of the national economy. ZHOU emphasized that, being faced with severe and complicated economic challenges both at home and abroad, the PBC should earnestly study and practice the scientific approach to development, implement the policies set by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on further stimulating domestic demand and beefing up financial support in order to uphold stable and relatively fast development of the economy.
During the research trip, ZHOU also visited the Shenzhen Sub-branch of the PBC and listened to the report by officials of the Sub-branch on local economic and financial situations.
