From September 16 to 18, 2009, the 8th IT Directors Meeting (ITDM) of the Executives Meeting of East Asia Pacific Central Banks (EMEAP) was convened in Hangzhou. Attended by more than 20 heads of IT departments from 11 EMEAP member central banks and monetary authorities, the meeting was themed IT Development and Application and Software Quality Management. Assistant Governor Li Dongrong spoke at the opening ceremony.
Assistant Governor Li pointed out that, ITDM, as a platform for discussing current issues on the application and management of IT in the financial sector and sharing know-how and experiences among EMEAP members, promoted IT cooperation and application in East Asia and Pacific. He also briefed the audience on IT application in China s financial sector.
Mr. Kenneth D. Buckley, from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, spoke on how IT reacted to the financial crisis. He talked about the challenges brought by the current financial crisis to the IT departments of central banks and summarized the Fed s experience. Representatives made presentations on IT developments within their country (region) in the recent year, including the development of payment and settlement systems, the establishment and improvement of important IT systems, network restructuring and the optimization of network management, building information security guarantee and emergency backup systems and the IT sector s effective measures in response to the international financial crisis and the outbreak of A (H1N1) influenza.
A consensus was reached that IT systems of central banks and monetary authorities should be enhanced to handle future challenges in the financial sector.
