On March 21 to 23 2010, PBC Governor Zhou Xiaochuan attended the Annual Meeting of Inter-American Development Bank Group in 2010 and addressed the conference in capacity of a governor of the board.
Governor Zhou acknowledged the contributions made by the IDB in alleviating poverty and promoting economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. He called on regional and non-regional members to make concerted efforts to make the IDB play a more positive role in promoting economic recovery and consolidating the achievements made in economic and social development in this region.
He also briefed the audience on the cooperation between China and the IDB in trade finance, infrastructure and personnel exchange since China s accession into the IDB more than a year ago. After gaining understanding and exploring cooperation possibilities, the two sides have started discussion on substantive cooperation.
Governor Zhou expressed China s willingness to join hands with other member countries to promote the recovery and sustainable social and economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Established in 1959, the IDB Group is headquartered in Washington D.C. As the most time-honored regional inter-governmental development financial institution covering the vastest jurisdictions, the IDB aims to promote the economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. China became the 48th member of the IDB on January 12, 2009.
