The 4th China-Latin America and the Caribbean Business Summit jointly organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the People s Bank of China (PBC), Sichuan Provincial Government and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) kicked off in Chengdu on October 21. Mr.
Bai Lichen, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Wan Jifei, Chairman of the CCPIT, Mr. Ma Delun, Deputy Governor of the PBC, Mr. Jiang Jufeng, Governor of Sichuan Province, and Mr. Huang Xiaoxiang, Vice Governor of Sichuan Province attended the opening ceremony.
A high-level delegation headed by President Moreno of the IDB including financial minister of Honduras, economic minister of Columbia, financial minster of Paraguay, foreign trade minister of Costa Rica, vice minister of foreign affairs of Argentina and former financial minister of Columbia, and 13 executive directors of the IDB participated.
The summit also attracted over 500 international entrepreneurs from various industries such as the mining, textile, construction materials, petrol chemicals, communication electronics, logistics and consulting industries.
As a high-level platform promoting trade and economic ties between China and Latin America, the summit took the theme of gaining strength from cooperation, and growing in harmony. The two-day event included plenary sessions on structuring a sustainable growth model, trade and investments, trade financing and capital market financing, parallel meetings on such hot topics as energy and mining, renewable energy, new potential sectors, risk assessment and dispute resolution, which shed light on China and Latin American businesses about policy trends, introduced success experiences and explored cooperation opportunities.
The summit, being practical and oriented to partnership building, held an information session about the IDB, a seminar on East Asia-Latin America SME Cooperation, and a roundtable on T.P.O., and offered sessions for one-on-one business networking, to promote mutual understanding among Chinese and Latin American businesses, and deepen cooperation of mutual benefit.
A Latin American country and China takes turns to hold the annual China-LAC Business Summit since 2007, and the summit has become an important platform for Chinese entrepreneurs to better understand the economic, trade and investment environment of Latin America, and cooperate with their Latin American counterparts.
