Hubei to invest US$27b on port expansion
CENTRAL China s Hubei Province announced Sunday it will invest more than 180 billion yuan (US$27 billion) to expand throughput capacity of Wuhan New Port on the Yangtze River between 2011 and 2020.
The move comes as Hubei seeks to explore the shipping potential of the Yangtze to make the port, which covers the cities of Wuhan, Huanggang and Ezhou, the shipping center for the middle reaches of the country s longest river.
Hyundai Motor to build third China plant
SOUTH KOREAN auto maker Hyundai Motor on Sunday started building its third China plant in Beijing, intended to meet rising demand after the firm s two existing Beijing plants exceeded their production capacity this year.
The plant, with an investment of 6.5 billion yuan, is designed to have an annual capacity of 400,000 passenger cars, according to a statement from Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., a joint venture between Beijing Automotive Holdings and Hyundai Motor. The factory in Shunyi, eastern Beijing, would increase Hyundai s production capacity in China to 1 million units, said the statement.
Ford adds 40 dealers in China
FORD Motor Co. opened 40 dealerships in China on Friday and plans to add 26 more by year s end as it aims for record sales in the world s largest auto market.
The dealerships opened in northern and western China are part of a plan to add 100 outlets this year, Ford said in a statement. The company also announced it will introduce a new sport utility vehicle in China next month.
Jiangsu exports more vegetables
EASTERN China s Jiangsu Province exported 215,000 tons of vegetables in the first three quarters of this year, a slight 0.04 percent year-on-year rise, the local customs house said yesterday.
Between January and September, Jiangsu sold 108,000 tons of vegetables to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members, 69,000 tons to Japan, and 21,000 tons to South Korea.
