Anti-dumping tax on X-ray scanners
CHINA would levy an anti-dumping tax on X-ray security scanners made by European companies, the Ministry of Commerce said.
An investigation showed that European makers of the scanners harmed local manufacturers by dumping the devices in the Chinese market, the ministry said Sunday in a statement on its Web site. China would impose a tax ranging from 33.5 percent to 71.8 percent on such imports for the next five years, effective Sunday, according to the statement. China released a preliminary finding of dumping June 9, based on the investigation begun in October 2009.
GM to export $900m in autos, parts to China
GENERAL Motors Co. says it plans to export US$900 million in vehicles and parts to China under a two-year agreement signed with its flagship joint venture, Shanghai GM.
The agreement was among various trade and investment deals signed in connection with Chinese President Hu Jintao s state visit to the United States, the company said in a release Sunday.
Vehicle exports will be worth US$500 million and components worth US$400 million under the agreement. The amount of GM s current exports, excluding the deal, was not immediately available.
China Unipec to resume diesel exports
CHINA International United Petroleum & Chemical Corp., the country s biggest oil trader, will resume diesel exports in February after a domestic shortage eased, according to a company official with knowledge of the plan.
Unipec, as China International is known, would continue to suspend imports of the fuel until March, said the official. The official didn t give the volume of planned exports because the contracts haven t been finalized. The trading unit of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., or Sinopec, halted exports in December and imported at least five cargoes of diesel to ease a domestic shortfall in the fourth quarter of last year.
China s commercial inventories of the transport fuel rose for a second month in December, surging 16 percent from November, after refiners boosted production to a record and resumed overseas purchases, Xinhua said Friday.
