Fire hazards
SHENZHEN Science and Technology Museum in Futian District and Shajing People s Hospital in Bao an District were among 11 premises blacklisted for failing fire hazard inspections, according to a report by the Shenzhen Municipal Firefighting Bureau on Monday.
The quarterly report said firefighting facilities had not been installed in a timely manner after the expansion of Shajing hospital owing to a shortage of funds. The museum needed to replace its decades-old firefighting equipment.
Rail station roads
THE construction of eight roads, auxiliary projects supporting the construction of Shenzhen North Railway Station, began Monday.
The roads will be finished in June next year in time for the completion of Shenzhen North Railway Station, which will connect city Metro lines 4 and 5.
Parts of the railway station will open at the end of this year.
Cough syrup
BUSINESSES or pharmacies found selling cough syrup to school children will face fines of up to 30,000 yuan (US$4,498), according to a new regulation implemented by the city drug administration Oct. 1.
The rule was introduced to curb abuse of the syrup, a prescribed medicine which contains the opium-based codeine as one of its main ingredients.
Fake medicines
THE drug administration s Bao an bureau confiscated 74 cartons of counterfeit medicines hidden in a factory attic in Longhua, Bao an District, the bureau said Monday.
The medicines would have been worth around 100,000 yuan had they reached the market. A pharmacy near the factory denied any connection with the products. An investigation is under way.
