Suicide leap
A WOMAN, a native of Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, died after jumping off her apartment building in Futian District on Saturday. Witnesses said the woman, a mother of two children, one 5 and the other 3, had quarreled with her husband before killing herself. An investigation is under way.
Cyclist killed
A CYCLIST was killed by a speeding truck at the intersection of Fuyong Road and Fuhai Boulevard in Fuyong Subdistrict, Bao an District on Saturday. The identity of the cyclist is not yet known.
Orange maggot fear
ORANGES riddled with maggots had not yet been found in Shenzhen but residents should avoid oranges with boreholes or withered skin, the city s agriculture department and wholesale markets said Friday. Earlier media reports said oranges riddled with maggots were reported in Henan, Hubei and other provinces.
The city sold about 160 tons of oranges each day, all from Guangxi, Jiangxi and Guangdong. No tainted oranges had been reported in these areas. The agriculture authority said maggots were common pests and posed no harm to humans or livestock.
Official punished
A COMMUNITY government official has been suspended from his post over an illegal construction in Nanyuan Subdistrict in Futian District. The 15-floor illegal building, still under construction, was allegedly constructed by the son of Zheng Qiongfeng, chief of the Shaputou community office. An investigation is under way.
