POLICE detained an alleged drink driver who injured a cyclist and severely damaged three taxis in Luohu District on Monday night.
The unidentified driver driving a black Mercedes-Benz with Sichuan plates was traveling on Aiguo Road in Luohu District when he veered into the oncoming lane, according to a report in yesterday s Daily Sunshine.
The car hit three parked taxis and the cyclist before hitting a fire hydrant.
Police said the driver had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
The sudden change of direction of the car forced other vehicles to brake heavily.
The cyclist was knocked unconscious and taken to Shenzhen No. 1 People s Hospital. He was in a stable condition yesterday.
The driver and two women tried to flag down a taxi to get away but were stopped by passersby, an unidentified witness told the paper.
The driver then made a phone call and 10 men soon appeared. They knocked down a friend of the injured cyclist who had arrived to ask the driver of the car to cover his friend s medical bills.
The attackers fled in three cars before police arrived, according to witnesses.
