JUNIOR English reporters in a Shenzhen Daily program attracted the attention of China Central Television (CCTV) during their visit to the Shanghai Expo during the National Day holidays.

A segment on the junior reporters was broadcast on a news program on the CCTV News channel Oct. 4 and the entire interview was conducted in English on Oct 3.

During the two-minute piece, two junior reporters, Wang Yao and Lin Xiaoyin, shared their impressions of the Expo and their duties as reporters for the Shenzhen Daily during the visit. The CCTV reporter, Zhou Yulin, was particularly impressed with Wang, 9, who made friends with children from the United States in a short interview with them earlier that day.

A total of 50 junior reporters aged between 9 and 11 from several primary schools in Shenzhen joined a four-day tour from Oct. 1. They visited the Expo and reported for the weekly education edition of the newspaper, Yes Teens!, Jiang Yun, chief coordinator of the program, said yesterday.

They were the fourth group sent to report on the Expo and so far more than 260 reporters had participated in the program since July 18, Jiang said.

More than 1,000 students had registered for the junior reporters program since it was launched a year ago.

They were selected from more than 10,000 applicants at primary and junior middle schools.
