Boy falls to death
A 6-YEAR-OLD boy fell to his death after he stepped on a plastic board placed between the rooftops of two apartment buildings in Shajing Subdistrict, Bao an District, on Tuesday. The boy was playing with two classmates on the roof of the building after school. Police are investigating.
New express rail
IT will take just 26 minutes to travel from Guangming New Zone to Guangzhou when the Shenzhen section of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou Express Railway is completed at the end of this year.
However, according to Zhang Hengchun, deputy Party chief and head of Guangming New Zone, fares for the line will be more expensive than on regular lines, though prices have not yet been decided. The whole express railway will be completed in 2014.
Facelift starts
THE renovation of Zhongying Street in Yantian District started Tuesday. The street will be built into a modern shopping area in a bid to rejuvenate the neighborhood, but many old buildings in the Lingnan architectural style will be preserved. The area was considered a shopping paradise for mainlanders in the 1980s.
Road cave-in
A CAVE-IN was reported at the intersection of Houhai Boulevard and Gongye Road 8 in Nanshan yesterday. The cave-in, more than 2 square meters in area and 1.5-meters deep, was said to have been caused by underground sewage repair work. No injuries were reported.
