THE average price of vegetables fell to 2.44 yuan (US$0.37) per 500 grams this week due to recent clement weather.
Current prices are on average nearly 12 percent lower than those seen last week.
The average price of 40 vegetables sold at the Buji Farm Produce Wholesale Market stood at 2.46 yuan per 500 grams Tuesday, compared with 2.99 yuan per 500 grams Oct. 7, the record high this year, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
Leafy vegetables led the price drop at the market, with their average price down by between 10 and 20 percent.
The price of cabbage dropped by more than 20 percent to 4.28 yuan per 500 grams.
The average price of vegetables such as pumpkin, white gourd and beans was 1.77 yuan per 500 grams, around 9 percent lower than last week, the paper said.
The average price of root vegetables was 2.12 yuan per 500 grams, a drop of just 1 percent.
The price of ginger, however, rose by about 2 percent to 5.31 yuan per 500 grams.
