Line 2 extension
WORK on the eastern extension of Metro Line 2 from Window of the World Station in Nanshan District to Xinxiu Village in Luohu District was completed Tuesday.
The east-west extension runs 22 kilometers with 22 stations. It is hoped the extension will help relieve traffic congestion between Luohu and Nanshan when the line opens in June next year.
Beach festival
THE annual Dameisha beach music festival, due to open Friday, has been postponed to Oct. 29 because of Typhoon Megi, which is expected to make landfall in central and western parts of Guangdong Province at the weekend, according to the festival organizing committee.
The festival is scheduled to last three days at Dameisha beach park in Yantian District.
Thief shot dead
A MEMBER of a car theft gang was shot dead Tuesday when he began assaulting arresting officers, while two others were arrested later Tuesday.
The incident occurred during a police operation in Shajing, Bao an District. The driver rammed his car into a police car which was blocking the men s escape.
When the car ended up in a dead-end, the driver got out and attacked approaching officers with a steel bar. Police shot the man dead after he ignored warnings.
Distraction robbers
THREE men suspected of involvement in thefts and robberies have been arrested by Futian police.
Police said the suspects used a cigarette to accidentally burn victims to distract their attention before stealing their wallets.
Imposter detained
POLICE detained a Hubei native Monday after he allegedly duped a man out of 20,000 yuan (US$3,006) by pretending to be a director of the anti-smuggling department of Shenzhen Customs, customs said yesterday.
The 38-year-old jobless man, He Shun, claimed a good connection with customs police, which could facilitate customs procedures.
He was caught by police in a restaurant in Luohu District as he was demanding 200,000 yuan from another man.
Bike theft
FOUR suspects have been detained for questioning over the theft of more than 100 electric bikes.
The suspects allegedly stole the electric bikes from the side of the road or from residential communities, removing them in a van. They allegedly stole more than 100 electric bikes over the past four months.
