Scaffolding collapse
A WORKER was slightly injured in a scaffolding collapse in Xin an Subdistrict, Bao an District, yesterday morning. The worker was standing near the scaffolding as other workers were dismantling an illegal building. A preliminary investigation showed the scaffolding came loose because several connecting joints were missing, most probably having been stolen.
Underage robbers
FIVE teenagers who had been coerced into crime were rescued by police Monday evening, Longgang police said yesterday. The teenagers, all aged 13 and natives of Guizhou, were forced by a suspect, identified as Lei, to carry out several robberies in Shenzhen after they dropped out of school. Police will send them back to Guizhou.
20m TEUs
THE cargo throughput in Shenzhen is expected to exceed 20 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) this year, securing its position as world fourth biggest container port, Huang Min, head of the city transport commission, said at the fourth annual Trans-Pacific Maritime Asia Global Container Shipping Conference yesterday at the InterContinental Hotel.
Over 600 delegates, more than double the attendance of last year, cemented the event organized by The Journal of Commerce and Shenzhen Port. Major officials in the container shipping industry and in trade are set to discuss pressing issues in international ocean transport, a pillar of international trade at the two-day meeting.
Shenzhen Port now operates 213 routes connecting with world major port cities.
