Undeclared watches
HUANGGANG Customs has this year reported nearly 2,000 cases of undeclared luxury watches carried by travelers, more than five times the number recorded in the same period last year.
Eighty percent of the undeclared watches were bought by mainland travelers in Hong Kong, the department said.
Winter flights
CHINA Southern Airlines will add more flights to its winter-spring schedule to Zhoushan and Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, Jinan in Shandong Province, Hohhot in Inner Mongolia and Xi an in Shaanxi Province.
The winter-spring schedule applies to the period between Oct. 31 and March 26, the company said.
Flights between Shenzhen and Xi an and Shenzhen and Hangzhou will operate daily. Passengers can call the company s hotline on 95539 or log on to the official Web site at www.scair.com.
Road projects start
THE construction of eight roads in Buji Subdistrict, Longgang District, started Monday.
The eight roads, to cost an estimated 120 million yuan, are expected to be finished by August next year.
Schools suspended
SHENZHEN Yuegang Driving School has been closed for two months for recruiting learner drivers to illegally obtain licenses through tests in cities outside Shenzhen, the city s transport commission said Monday. Shenzhen Yintong Driver Training School has been closed for one month.
Candidates find it easier to pass driving tests in other cities.
The suspension orders came after a bus hired by the schools, and carrying more than 30 learner drivers, overturned in Guangxi a week ago. The learner drivers were on their way to a driving theory test.
270,000 disabled
THE city is home to 270,000 disabled people and one-quarter of them, about 72,000, hold hukou, a meeting of Shenzhen Federation of Disabled Persons was told Monday.
Cleaner stabbed
A MAN was stabbed to death while collecting sanitation fees at Shitouling Village, Bao an District, on Monday evening.
The cleaner, Wu, 47, had asked the wife of a tenant, identified as Zheng, to pay the 15-yuan fee.
A quarrel ensued and when Zheng appeared, he allegedly stabbed Wu in the stomach with a fruit knife. Wu died from loss of blood. Zheng is now in police custody.
