A BYD showroom, the first of its kind in the Shenzhen central business district, officially opened on Shangbao Road East in Futian District yesterday.

The showroom, an affiliate of Shenzhen Press Group Automobile Sales Service Co., sells all BYD automobiles from the MPV model M6 to the plug-in hybrid compact sedan F3DM.

Situated in the east of the Shenzhen Economic Daily compound, the showroom, covering 4,000 square meters, also provides after-sale services. The maintenance section covers 2,600 square meters and is equipped to repair all BYD models, as well as other vehicles.

Shenzhen Press Group Automobile Sales Service Co., established eight years ago, has expanded from a maintenance shop to a brand-name enterprise involving maintenance and sales. The company now has 109 employees, 70 percent of whom are mechanics.

Shenzhen announced in June that it would provide subsidies of up to 30,000 yuan (US$4,520) for plug-in hybrids and 60,000 yuan for pure electric cars in addition to the national government subsidies of 50,000 yuan for hybrid vehicles and 60,000 yuan for pure electric vehicles.

The policy means an F3DM will cost just 89,800 yuan compared with the original price of 169,800 yuan.

Shenzhen is expected to have 34,000 new-energy vehicles by the end of 2012, including 25,000 private cars. The incentive will be terminated when 25,000 new-energy vehicles have been sold.

China Southern Power Grid will build 89 charging stations offering 47,500 charging poles by the end of 2012. A driver could save around 10,000 yuan a year by using a BYD hybrid car compared with a conventional car using gasoline.
