A 10-YEAR-OLD girl died when she fell from a third-floor apartment trying to close a water valve on the wall of a residential building in Longgang District on Saturday.
The girl, identified as Xiaomei, fell from the window of the apartment in Guoyuan Community in Buji and was declared dead by paramedics. Neighbors said she fell because no anti-theft netting had been installed on the window, yesterday s Daily Sunshine reported.
Police at the Buji Police Station refused to comment on the case as it was under investigation and the landlord of the building could not be reached, the newspaper said.
The girl noticed a water pipe on the exterior wall had broken while she was playing at home alone with her sister. The girl s mother said her daughter had reached out to close the water valve to stop the water from leaking, but fell from the kitchen window. (Wang Yuanyuan)
