THE chief of a police station in Luohu District has been suspended from his post and is under investigation for allegedly drinking on duty, the city s public security bureau said Wednesday.
The statement was made in response to a recent rumor that Zhou Qing had returned to work as the chief of Huangbei police station in Luohu, the Southern Metropolis Daily said Thursday.
Zhou was suspended from his post for dereliction of duty before the National Day holidays after he was reported to the city s public security bureau by an anonymous tip-off.
He allegedly went to a karaoke lounge to drink following an invitation from some colleagues who were celebrating the cracking of a case, the Daily claimed.
Zhou had a drink at the karaoke lounge and then returned home for a shower while he was supposed to be still on duty, the Daily said. According to regulations, police officers cannot leave their posts or the neighborhoods under their jurisdiction when on duty.
Zhou confirmed to the paper that he hasn t returned to work and refused to give further comment.
Zhou s suspension has caused a sensation at the Luohu District public security subbureau, with some claiming Zhou had been set up. The paper quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying that Zhou was caught by disciplinary officials from the subbureau when taking shower at home.
He works hard and is considered a nice guy by many colleagues, one unidentified police officer told the Daily. (SD News)
