SHENZHEN has set a ceiling on the number of entertainment venues at 1,800, according to a government plan released Wednesday.
According to the plan, 1,627 new entertainment venues such as massage parlors, pubs and karaoke bars would be allowed in addition to the existing 173 venues, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Thursday.
The new entertainment venues would include 1,386 in districts and 241 for Chinese-foreign joint ventures.
The government would give priority to entertainment venues in shopping malls, theme parks, tourist resorts, hotels above grade-three and public recreational and sporting venues.
The number of entertainment premises requiring an independent location would not be allowed to exceed one-third of the total planned number.
Entertainment venues in downtown areas must be no less than 600 square meters and those in other areas no less than 400 square meters, the paper said.
In addition, the new venues would be prohibited from opening in residential communities, museums, libraries and historical and cultural buildings under government protection.
They would not be allowed near schools, hospitals or government offices. No new entertainment venues would be allowed at bus and train stations or airports, or areas close to chemical warehouses.(Li Hao)
