Teachers salaries
BAO AN education authorities inspected private schools and kindergartens Tuesday to see if they had honored contracts involving teachers salaries.
The three-day inspection concentrated on private kindergartens and 60 schools which charge less than 2,000 yuan (US$299) a term.
Schools that pay teachers below the city s minimum subsistence standard, delay paying wages or fail to provide insurance for teachers will be criticized in a public circular, the Bao an education bureau said Tuesday.
Office building
WORK started on an office building for Hong Kong jewelry retailer Chow Tai Fook Group in Yantian District on Tuesday.
The building will be 97.9 meters tall and cost 200 million yuan.
Fur smuggling
SHENZHEN Customs had detected 283 smuggling cases involving furs and other animal products this year, the department said Tuesday.
Smuggling cases have increased as more Chinese travel abroad and bring back products such as ivory and furs from African countries.
Gold theft
THE owner of a jewelry store was arrested by Luohu police Tuesday for allegedly stealing 6 kg of gold from another shop owned by his cousin.
The suspect, identified as Huang, 45, allegedly broke into the shop and a safe belonging to his cousin, a former partner, and stole the gold Oct. 9, police said.
