THE family of Sheng Jinhua, 54, a gardener at Shenzhen Safari Park who was mauled to death by tigers two weeks ago, has received compensation of 300,000 yuan (US$44,777) from the park management.
According to an agreement signed Friday, Sheng s wife and the son of his ex-wife would share the compensation.
Shenzhen Safari Park said in the agreement the payment was made in consideration of the difficulty Sheng s death had caused the family.
In addition, the park management would assist the families in securing compensation from insurance companies.
According to regulations, families could receive up to 250,000 yuan in industrial death insurance compensation and 100,000 yuan from commercial insurance.
The park did not comment on the agreement yesterday.
Sheng, who signed an employment contract with the park in July, was trying to remove weeds from a section of the enclosure inside the barrier when he accidentally fell into the tiger enclosure on the afternoon of Oct. 14.
He sustained a fatal injury to his neck when four tigers attacked him.
Nine tigers are kept inside the enclosure, and visitors are allowed to feed pieces of meat to the animals through a special barrier in one part of the pen.
