Goods smuggling

SHATOUJIAO Customs on Sunday intercepted an inbound car carrying 1.29 million yuan (US$193,600) worth of smuggled electronic products.

The goods included mobile phones, digital cameras and camera lenses.

Customs detained the unidentified driver.

Land supervision

A SUPERVISORY team will be established in city districts at the end of the month to monitor illegal construction in communities, the city s anti-illegal buildings office said.

The team will be in charge of investigation and punishment relating to the construction of illegal buildings in communities. More than 190 new staff will be recruited for the supervision, the office said.

Street cleaning

SWEEPING vehicles will be used to have 80 percent of the city s streets cleaned by 2011, according to the urban management bureau.

The bureau will install GPS on all sweeping vehicles to supervise the cleaning process.

Cleaning industry

TOTAL turnover of the city s cleaning industry has reached more than 2 billion yuan per year, with more than 400 companies and 170,000 employees, according to the city s first skill competition for cleaning companies.

Shenzhen established the country s first cleaning service company in 1984.
