WORKERS at a Japanese factory in Bao an District returned to work after going on strike for 10 days demanding higher pay.
Ricoh Co. said yesterday that the strike had disrupted production for more than 10 days at the factory operated by a unit of the Japanese office equipment maker, but it had now been resolved.
The labor dispute broke out Oct. 13 after the company had announced it would merge the factory s operations with those of a nearby Ricoh plant, a Ricoh spokesman said.
Operations at the Ricoh Elemex factory employs some 1,300 people in Shenzhen and makes parts for printers and watches.
There were demands concerning pay, the spokesman said, declining to elaborate. He added that Ricoh had guaranteed jobs and working conditions despite the merger.
He declined to say how the Japanese company had convinced workers to return to their jobs. (SD-Agencies)
