Parlor wrecked
A HAIRDRESSING parlor in Luoling in Luohu District was wrecked in the early hours yesterday by three unidentified men. The shop owner said the attack could have been related to protection money. He paid 2,000 yuan (US$299) in protection fees to a gang in September, but refused to pay in October.
Dongmen police are investigating.
Teachers on strike
KINDERGARTEN teachers at a housing estate in Longgang District went on strike yesterday, leaving children unattended. The teachers cited dissatisfaction with their working conditions and management as reasons for the strike. The teachers resumed work in the afternoon, five hours after the strike.
LED lamps
SHENZHEN will install 10,000 LED (lighting emitting diode) lamps along city streets by the end of 2011 and replace at least 10,000 street lamps with the energy-saving lamps yearly from 2012. The move is part of plans to develop Shenzhen into a low-carbon city.
Job fair
NEARLY 140 organizations from Taiwan and Hong Kong will attend the Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (CIEP) to be held Friday and Saturday at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.
Among them are the Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan s Chengchi University, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Hong Kong Architectural Technologists.
