Shopping village
SHENZHEN opened its first discount shopping village for brand-name clothes at Dameisha in Yantian District on Saturday.
A total of 65 stores have opened in the village featuring luxury brands such as Gucci and Prada.
The district government will provide free buses to the village after the second stage is completed.
Industrial fair
THE 3rd China (Shenzhen) International Industrial Fair, which opened Friday at China South City in Longgang District, has attracted exhibitors from more than 30 countries.
The four-day fair has a 90,000-square-meter exhibition area with over 3,600 booths.
Pangolin scales
LUOHU Customs on Friday detained an inbound Chinese traveler carrying 13.5 kilograms of smuggled pangolin scales.
The department has seized 44 kilograms of pangolin scales this year.
Pangolin scales are considered a valuable medicinal ingredient in China. They sell on the black market for 4,000 yuan (US$600) per kilogram.
Games promotion
THE Universiade organizing committee sent a promotional tour group to Singapore and Malaysia on Friday to promote the Games, which will open in August next year.
During the five-day trip, the group will visit key resorts and universities in both countries to invite citizens to watch the Games in Shenzhen.
Other promotional tours are in the pipeline.
Bay plunge
A DUMP truck driver accidentally drove his vehicle into the sea at a Shenzhen Bay Park construction site Saturday morning. The driver escaped the vehicle as it sank in 4-meter-deep water. The accident was blamed on poor lighting at the site.
The truck was later hauled out of the water.
Truck fire
A TRUCK carrying 30 tons of sand and stone caught fire following a blow-out on Pingji Road in Nanwan Subdistrict, Longgang District, on Saturday morning.
No one was injured in the accident, which blocked traffic for two hours.
