Driving center

A NEW driving test venue will open next month at Xili Orchard in Nanshan District, the city s traffic police bureau said yesterday.

The bureau will send police examiners to work at the Guangren Training Field, which has been established through private investment. The initiative is hoped to reduce waiting lists for tests brought about by the limited capacity of police test venues.

There are a total of 260,000 people waiting to get a driver s license but the city s driving test authority is only able to accept around 10,000 per month. In 2009, about 220,000 people applied to take a driving test, a 70 percent increase over 2008. About 80 percent of people passed the test the first time.
